Hey there, friend! Let’s talk about something super important: loving yourself. I know, it can sound cliché, but trust me, it’s the foundation for a happier, healthier, more confident life. So, grab a cup of your favorite drink, get cozy, and let's dive into the top 20 ways you can show yourself some love.
1. Speak Kindly to Yourself
Replace negative self-talk with affirmations. You deserve to be your own love and support. Our favorite affirmations are "I'm allowed" and "Everything turns out well for me." But affirmations are most powerful when you make up your own. Just remember to keep them positive. So instead of saying, "Today I don't go in debt" say, "I always have enough money". Now THAT is a good affirmation.
2. Practice Self-Care
Whether it’s a bubble bath, a walk in nature, or simply taking a nap, prioritize activities that recharge you.
3. Set Boundaries
Respect yourself enough to say no when you need to. It's okay to put your needs first.
4. Start Your Day with Gratitude
Begin each morning by acknowledging something you're grateful for. It sets a positive tone for the day. If journaling sounds intimidating, we have guided self-love journals to get you started. Try out You Are Beautiful for building confidence and self-worth.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
Did you finally organize that drawer? Celebrate it! Get a green light? Can I get a "WAHOO"?! Every little victory counts. Finding small joys throughout the day does wonders for loving yourself.
6. Spend Time with Loved Ones
Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. If you feel drained after hanging out with an old friend, maybe you can decrease the time you spend with them to once per month. If you haven't found a friend group that uplifts and inspires you yet, check out some self-improvement podcasts. We are the company we keep. So make sure you keep uplifting company a priority. I know it's cliche, but our vibe attracts our tribe. Change your vibe and the right people will find you! And they'll be lucky they did.
7. Pursue Your Passions
Engage in hobbies that light up your soul. Your passions are part of what makes you unique. If you haven't spent time doing hobbies lately and don't know where to start, think back to what you liked as a kid. That will show you the way.
8. Eat Nourishing Foods
Fuel your body with foods that make you feel good. Balance is key. Healthy food can be decadent and delicious too! Play with recipes and new vegetables to bring life into your diet.
9. Stay Active
Move your body in ways that feel good to you, whether it's dancing, yoga, or hiking. This is a HUGE self-love and confidence booster. Not sure where to start? Check out free videos on YouTube. Here are a few of my favorite channels that I use:
GrowingAnanas: The instructor's HIIT and Tabata workouts are my favorite. They are super fun, and the music is always motivating.
The Fitness Marshall (for dancing): Great 3-4 minute easy choreographed dances lead by a hilarious dance instructor. Get a great little cardio while having a wonderfully good time.
Fitness Blender: I started my fitness journey 10 years ago and I began with this channel. Super sweet instructors and easy to get started with or without weights. Their quiet videos allow you to listen to your own playlist!
10. Get Enough Sleep
Prioritize rest. Sleep is like charging your phone; without it, you simply can't function. When we sleep, our body heals itself, releases resistance, and allows good ideas, good moods, and the best version of ourselves to emerge. Your body and mind need adequate rest to perform at their best.
11. Forgive Yourself
Let go of past mistakes. They don’t define you. Every mistake is a learning opportunity, not a life sentence. Dwelling on them only holds you back. Instead, embrace the lessons learned and focus on your growth. Remember, your worth isn't determined by your past but by how you rise above it. Give yourself grace. Forgive yourself and move forward with confidence and self-compassion.
12. Learn Something New
Keep your mind active by picking up a new skill or hobby. Engaging in new activities stimulates your brain and keeps things exciting. For instance, Duolingo offers free lessons in foreign languages, music, and math, making learning accessible and fun.
If you enjoy being creative, try drawing or painting. Put on a Bob Ross video, grab some paints, and let your imagination flow. These activities not only keep your mind sharp but also provide a sense of accomplishment and joy.
13. Declutter Your Space
A tidy space can lead to a tidy mind. Cleaning is therapeutic and helps create a calm, organized environment. Clear out the clutter and set a good intention for the space. You might find it helpful to use incense or sage to cleanse the area, if that feels right for you. This process can refresh your surroundings and your mindset, making it easier to focus and feel at peace.
14. Set Goals
Give yourself something to strive for. Setting goals provides direction and purpose, making each day feel more meaningful. It’s motivating and fulfilling to work towards something that excites you, whether it’s learning a new skill, reaching a fitness milestone, or pursuing a career aspiration. Achieving these goals boosts your confidence and gives you a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing the belief that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Which you can.
15. Express Yourself
Whether through art, writing, or speaking, expressing your feelings is essential for self love.
Engaging in artistic expression—such as painting or crafting—provides a visual outlet to externalize and process complex emotions.
Writing, whether journaling or poetry, offers a private space to explore thoughts and gain insights, promoting self-discovery.
Verbalizing emotions through conversations with trusted individuals or therapists fosters validation and understanding, offering new perspectives and strengthening connections.
Our guided journal, "You Are A Masterpiece.", complements these practices by providing prompts designed to inspire self-love, mindfulness, and self-empowerment through great works of art like The Mona Lisa, The Starry Night, and many more.
These forms of expression—art, writing, speaking, and journaling—each play a crucial role in nurturing emotional health, fostering resilience, and deepening self-love.
16. Take Breaks
Don’t overwork yourself. Take time to relax and recharge. Whether it’s taking naps, scrolling on your phone, or rewatching your favorite TV show’s fourth season, give yourself permission to unwind. Allowing your brain to relax is essential for overall well-being, demonstrating self-love and respect for your body's needs.
17. Practice Mindfulness
Stay present and savor each moment, whether you're enjoying a meal, taking a walk, or spending time with loved ones. Mindfulness involves being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment, which can significantly reduce stress and increase overall joy in life. One effective way to cultivate mindfulness is through meditation. Guided meditation sessions are readily available and can help you develop the practice by focusing your attention and calming your mind. Whether you prefer to meditate in silence or with soothing guidance, incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine can enhance your well-being and bring greater peace and clarity to your life.
18. Surround Yourself with Positivity
Limit exposure to negativity by curating your social media feed and surrounding environment with content and people who uplift and inspire you. Creating a positive and supportive atmosphere can significantly impact your mindset and overall well-being.
Pinterest is great for cultivating a curated space. Make a board for things that make you feel good. Add quotes, pictures of animals, beautiful aesthetics, or whatever makes your heart happy. I did this when I started my self-love journey over 10 years ago and it enhanced my life ten-fold.
19. Seek Help When Needed
It’s important to remember that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Whether you turn to therapy or confide in a trusted friend, seeking support can make a profound difference in navigating challenges and improving your mental health.
Finding the right therapist who truly understands and supports you is life changing. I'm not being dramatic. Don’t hesitate to explore different options until you find the right fit for you. Therapy has the potential to be transformative, so prioritize finding a therapist who can positively impact your life journey.
